Quality Electric Air Purifiers for Homes Throughout the Indianapolis Area

Air cleaning is a priority for many Indianapolis area families, as particles from the air build up inside the home where they cause poor air quality and even health issues. Outdoor air pollutants aren’t the only thing you need to address – indoors, particles such as pet dander, dust pollen, and more can increase allergy symptoms and lead to discomfort. HVAC system air filters are helpful to remove some pollutants from the air across your whole home, but their main job is to protect your forced air heating and cooling system, not clean the air.

For cleaning the air across the entire home, a whole-home electric air purifier is a powerful solution. A whole house air purifier filtration system is able to clean the air across every room – portable units only provide air filtration for one smaller sq ft area while in use, like a living room or bedroom. The best whole-house air purifiers work with your heating and air conditioning system to filter out contaminants from all room air as the HVAC system circulates air throughout the home. These high-efficiency air cleaners provide excellent air filtration to improve comfort and health for all in your household. Better indoor air quality means your family is exposed to fewer air pollutants in each room, your home stays cleaner, and your heating and cooling system is protected from damaging particles suspended in the airflow.

What Is an Electric Whole House Air Purifier?

Williams Comfort Air helps Indianapolis area homeowners address air quality concerns with the finest solutions for use with residential HVAC equipment. We perform professional installation for your new air purification system to make sure it provides superior air purification without impacting air flow from room to room. If your home suffers from poor air quality, a whole house air purifier may be the right solution – request an appointment today to meet with our Comfort Consultants and find out how to boost the quality of indoor air in your Indy residence.

An electric whole-house air purifier is a type of indoor air quality system that uses a powerful media air filter and an electric charge to remove pollutants from the air that circulates through the HVAC ducts as well as the heating and air conditioning units. Using the fan speed of the HVAC unit, the air in your home is drawn through the filter and circulated through the comfort system. This means room air from every sq ft of your home is treated.

This air purifier is installed alongside the HVAC system at the return air side of your ductwork to clean the air before it moves into the furnace or air handler components of an air conditioning or heat pump system. The filters used in whole-house air purifiers are thicker than the average furnace filter and are housed in their own cabinet. Because the filter has a higher MERV rating, it does not need to be changed as frequently as your furnace filter may. It is also capable of removing smaller airborne particles, such as bacteria and viruses that are under 0.3 microns in size.

How Electric Whole House Air Purifiers Work

This particular air purification system works differently than media air cleaners and UV light air purifier equipment. Like a media air cleaner, electric whole-house air purifiers also use a media air filter to trap airborne particles as airflow circulates throughout the ducts and HVAC unit. Their air filters are typically more powerful than the air filter in use with a media air cleaner – the air purifier filter rating allows the unit to capture finer particles and more of them, including airborne particles under 0.3 microns in size. While the air filter helps the air purifier deliver superior air purification, it is not a HEPA filter. Using a true HEPA filter is not appropriate with most residential HVAC system equipment. HEPA filters are typically reserved for air filtration in critical environments – a true HEPA filter is used to clean the air in hospitals and clean rooms.

What makes the whole-house air purifier different from a media air cleaner is the use of an electric charge to aid in air purification. After installation, the whole house air purifier is powered by the home’s electricity, which the unit will use to produce ions with an electric charge inside. As room air passes into the air purifier at the return air duct, the ions latch onto airborne particles passing through the filter. The unit air filter is oppositely charged, which attracts these ions and captures them to pull pollutants from the airflow.

Particles from the air trapped by the purifier filter stay inside the filtration system collector plates and do not recirculate back into any room of your home as the forced air HVAC unit cycles. Pathogen particles such as bacteria and viruses are rendered inactive by the strong electric field of the filter.

Air Quality Issues Treated by a Whole House Air Purifier

Whole house air purifiers are excellent at removing particles from your home indoor air supply, achieving air cleaning by eliminating contaminants from airflow. Using an electric charge and air filters with a high MERV rating, this filtration system treats indoor air pollution particles including:

  • Pet Dander
  • Dust
  • Pollen
  • Mold Spores
  • Smoke
  • Fumes
  • Bacteria and Viruses

Advantages of a Whole Home Air Purifier

Many Indianapolis homeowners feel electric air purifiers are the best whole-house air cleaning solutions for various reasons.

  • A whole home system beats all portable units, with the ability to cover many more sq ft of the home. Portable air purifiers only filter air of one room or small space, which leaves dust, pollen, pet dander, and other particles lurking across the home.
  • These air cleaners are very safe for use. This type of air purifier only produces trace amounts of ozone as a byproduct, about 5PPB (parts per billion) – this is below the Environmental Protection Agency’s recommendation of below 50PPB in a living space.
  • Whole home air purifiers require little maintenance, unlike portable air cleaners and air purifiers. The filter offers a long service life, just make sure to replace it about once per year. There are no collector plates that require frequent cleaning like some portable units.
  • The best whole-house air purifiers require little electricity, so their use does not increase your household utility bills. These indoor air solutions make little noise while operating and will not disrupt the room.

The Infinity air purifier delivers excellent air filtration throughout every room of your home. It uses a high-efficiency media filter with a MERV 15 rating combined with patented Captures and Kills technology to trap and deactivate airborne particles. HVAC fan speed allows air flow through the system while the heating or cooling unit is in use.

The Infinity air purifier is over 99% effective at inactivating multiple types of bacteria and viruses, including those that cause strep throat, influenza, the common cold, and coronavirus. It captures microscopic particles 1.0 to 3.0 microns with 95% efficiency and particles between 1.0 and 0.3 microns with 85% efficiency, removing pet dander, dust pollen, and other pollutants from your indoor air. While HEPA filters offer slightly better efficiency, true HEPA filters do not possess the germicidal capability of Infinity air filtration. Ozone output is minimal, which means your family members are kept safe in every room of the home.

Infinity whole home air purifiers come in a range of sizes – this means no matter how many sq ft your home, there is a solution available for you!
